If you love fantasy hockey, DTC has got something for you. We here at DTC wanted to provide our top picks for this upcoming year. Keep in mind; these are our personal picks so they may be a little bit different from some others out there. Let’s count down our top 5 players for a few categories. This time we take a look at the Defensemen.
- Erik Karlsson (#1 Yahoo)
The flashy Swede with the buttery mitts is a lock for any fantasy team. Coming off a strong 66 point season you can expect points from Karlsson which will net you fantasy points in multiple categories. His defense zone play coupled with the strong goaltending duo the Sens have behind Hanmmond and Anderson will add up some serous fantasy upside.
- PK Subban (#2 Yahoo)
A strong offensive presence PK isn’t afraid to mix it up as well. Expect some penalty minutes in addition to 50+ points this season from him. Watching this guy skate is a treat, if you dont believe us watch his GoPro video. Subban is a must for a fantasy GM looking to a mix of offensive points and solid defensive plays.
- Shea Weber (#6 Yahoo)
His cannon from the point leaves goalies in fear but, you should feel comfortable picking Weber high in your fantasy draft. The physical 30 year old Nashville captain will net you defensive points, PIM’s, and a solid plus-minus.
- Mark Giordano (#7 Yahoo)
When he’s healthy Giordano puts up numbers. We’re rolling the dice here at DTC on Giordano having an even bigger season this year. Stable in every category you want from a defenseman, he will net you some points, a staunch plus-minus, as well as a few penalty minutes throughout the season. It will be interesting to see how the Flames fare as a whole this season, nonetheless, Giordano is a solid pickup.
- Kris Letang (#3 Yahoo)
Can’t forget Kris Letang and his silky smooth style from our fantasy 5 at DTC. Letang is an offensive powerhouse. Although he is somewhat injury prone as well we think he’s worth it. Letang is looking to play 82 games this season and has himself said he is looking to that as a main goal. If he was 100%, he would no doubt be higher on this list.
(Bonus) Dark Horse:
Aaron Ekblad had a phenomenal rookie season 39 points and 12 plus minus…. wait for it.. with the Panthers. Don’t expect a sophomore slump out of him. He will be a valuable asset to any fantasy team. He has been seen making some nice up ice passes to veteran Jagr, be on the lookout for some assists coming from the point under Ekblad.
